Our Floor Coating Process: Built to Outperform Epoxy Floor Coatings
A professional, polyurea-based floor coating process designed for long-term performance without the limitations of traditional epoxy floor coatings.
Why Our Process Is Different
While epoxy floor coatings have been a common solution for concrete floors, advancements in coating technology have created stronger, more reliable options. At Icon Coatings, we exclusively install high-performance polyurea floor coating systems because they are 4x stronger than epoxy and deliver superior durability, flexibility, and moisture resistance.
Our process is built around proper evaluation, preparation, and professional installation ensuring your floor coating not only looks great on day one, but continues to perform for years to come.
1
Surface Preparation
Every project starts with an in-person consultation. We inspect your concrete, perform moisture testing, identify cracks or damage, and discuss how the space will be used. This allows us to put together the perfect floor coating plan for your space.
2
Concrete Repairs
Cracks, pits, and surface imperfections are carefully repaired to create a smooth, uniform surface. Addressing these issues before coating ensures a stronger bond and a more refined finished appearance.
3
Polyurea Base Coat
We apply a 100% solids, self-priming polyurea base coat that penetrates and bonds directly to the concrete. This layer forms the structural backbone of the system— 4x stronger and more flexible than traditional epoxy floor coatings.
4
Decorative Flake Application
Decorative vinyl flakes are broadcast into the wet base coat to full coverage. This step adds texture, durability, and depth, transforming plain concrete into a clean, elevated surface.
5
Flake Scrape
Once cured, excess flake is carefully scraped and vacuumed to remove loose or vertical pieces. This ensures a consistent texture and prepares the surface for the protective topcoat.
6
UV-Stable Clear Topcoat
A UV-stable polyaspartic clear topcoat that won’t yellow or fade like epoxy is applied to seal the system and lock everything in place. This final layer provides long-term protection against wear, moisture, and sunlight, delivering a durable, low-maintenance finish built for Florida conditions.
Polyurea Floor Coatings vs. Epoxy Floor Coatings
Why Polyurea Outperforms Epoxy
Polyurea floor coatings are engineered to exceed the performance limitations of epoxy floor coatings, especially in environments exposed to moisture, UV light, and temperature changes.
